(DJ M-Rock's Words Below)
However I did relate to Tribe. Tribe's music is honest, it doesn't have commercial appeal and it succeeded because these brothers were close and very gifted, far from the average. They got paid as a group and didn't fight over cheques. When they started falling off, the beats got mathematical and sample-free, they went soft as they brought J-Dilla in, who's ironically one of the rawest producers ever. I can even hear Tip mentioning his friends during Phife's verse in "1nce again", an ignorant thing on his part, a lack of chemistry that was all over the last 2 albums. I relate to all of this because I fell off as a tablist, wasn't a team player myself towards the end of that phase in my career. With that in mind, this mix is none of those wacker moments, it's the straight rawness of Tribe, the group that wrote classic verses on the bus (buggin' out) or kept verses from their childhood (Tip wrote Bonita at 14). Go watch the movie, by the way, it's incredible. This mixtape took 3 weeks which is why M-Rock Mondays have been nothing, and now that it's done, I hope you all really enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it.

And even more significant for me than this tape is the next step that's happening in my career. I left Thompson Hotel's rooftop lounge a month ago to join Muzik, possibly one of the biggest clubs in the entire country. I didn't want to leave but Muzik was offering a whole new thing for me. I was playing with a house DJ and over the past weeks I realized I want my own night, something between what my man Tabs has at Parkdale Drink and the boutiques I play. This Saturday is the grand opening of Nyood's new club, F-Stop (a camera term for points of distance, I think) and I'm proud to say I'm their official Saturday night DJ. Muzik and Thompson have been supportive of me in making my next steps and I am so appreciative. The guys who ran Nyood combine musical sensibility with swank and design in a way where friends of mine from New York prefer Nyood to what they have out there. At Pravda, I get to lounge it out, at Nyood I do urban hard, and F-Stop's just the next level. I look forward to playing for you guys. Much love and thanks to my clients, my supporters and my fans.
All aside, the Kanye tape is at 17,000+ since January, I'm nominated for a Stylus DJ Mixtape award, I just pitched a hot beat for a Ciroc commercial and I'm happy.
